Call for Spring Submissions

Would you like to see your original crochet and knitting designs in the pages of Your Crochet & Knitting magazine? Read on…

Spring submissions mood boards

Your Crochet & Knitting is a kit-based magazine, which comes with a bumper pack of yarn in every issue. All the projects we commission will be made in this yarn, using the needles and hook provided. The magazine is aimed at beginners or those who are returning to crochet and knitting after a break. Quick, simple projects are the order of the day. No stranded colourwork please (although slip-stitch patterns are fine).

You can see out projects and how far the kit yarn can go here. We are taking spring submissions for both issues 7 and 8, which will be on sale in 2019.

Projects we’re looking for (both issues)

Toys, blankets, decorations/homewares, baby gifts, women’s accessories
Knit: Baby garments & accessories, women’s accessories, decorations/homewares, toys, blankets

IMPORTANT – All projects must be worked on 3.5mm straight knitting needles or a 3mm crochet hook.

The deadline for submissions is 9am UK time on Tuesday 20th November for issue 7 and 4th December for issue 8. If you have an idea which you think might work for either issue, please submit it by the issue 7 deadline.

We will aim to get back to you by the end of the following week and your yarn should be in the post to you ASAP. The deadline for finished patterns and samples will be Tuesday 18th December for issue 7 and 29th January for issue 8.

While we welcome submissions from all over the world, our deadlines are tight on these issues due to the turn-around on the yarn kits being produced, so the deadlines may be too tight for international designers this time, depending on how far away you are from the UK. We’re working towards bringing our yarn order dates forward to address this for future issues.

Compensation/Support:
We provide yarn support and we cover the tech editing and photography.
All projects are small, so payment is between £50-£120 per project.

Rights:
4 months after publication, rights will revert to you and you will then be able to use the final tech-edited version of the pattern (including charts/schematics) as you wish. We arrange yarn support for all designers. Your sample remains your property, but we will hold onto it for a while in case we get pattern queries, or for display at shows. We will return your sample to you at the same time as your publication rights.

Submission Requirements:
Your submission should include a sketch and accompanying paragraph describing the item and a photograph or scan of your swatch. The submission should be presented in a PDF document, with your name and email address on every page. All information should be included in the submission document, including pictures. Please also tell us where we can find other examples of your work – a link to your Ravelry designer profile is ideal. You will be commissioned to write a full pattern (including any alternative sizes) and knit a sample. We will take care of photography.

IMPORTANT: Please create a separate PDF for each idea and name the file in the following format: YourName _PatternName_YCK7.pdf or YourName _PatternName_YCK8.pdf

Send to:
Please send your submissions to the editor, Angela Hatton on:
angela.hatton@practicalpublishing.co.uk
